Luke 1:76-78 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, when the day shall dawn upon us from on high
Living up to your father's hopes and expectations -
The difference between what we want, and God's will
Nothing to do with sports or taking over the family business, or any of the other things
Zechariah spoke by inspiration of God
will be called the prophet of the Most High
Prophet - speaking the word God gives, may have nothing to do with knowing the future
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways
Prophet - prepare the way - this is also something all Christians are called to do
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
Question - how can you be saved?
Knowledge freely given, not earned
salvation in the forgiveness of their sins,
What is salvation? The forgiveness of sins is salvation,
it enables us to stand before God
holy and righteous, in boldness and confidence, and at peace.
What is sin?
Tresspass - being on the wrong side of the fence
Transgression - rebelling agaist the authority of God
Sin is evil, it earns death
forgiveness, through the tender mercy of our God
forgivness is an act of mercy, it does not extract what is owed, it releases
mercy - undeserved gift
tender mercy - something you might expect from a mother, not from God.
when the day shall dawn upon us from on high
something to look forward to
time unknown, but certainly worth waiting for
Advent is very much a time of near, but not yet
Living up to Our Father's expectations,
God is our father,
He has mercy on us and forgives our sins
He gives us grace to do the things he has called us to do
We too prepare the way, we bring people to Jesus.
