Luke 17:3-5 Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him; and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, and says, I repent,' you must forgive him." The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"

Who are you? We define ourselves by the stuff in our lives, even if all the stuff were the same, there remain differences in the order of its importance. So, the real question is what is most important, what comes first above all else?

While we may have many things in our lives, there comes a time when we can hand on to only one thing, where we have to choose, which comes first – and it is in this choice, that there should be only one answer, one thing that comes first, one thing that is most important – and that is the salvation that comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ – wherein we find the forgiveness of sins, peace with God and eternal life.

When that comes first, then we know how important it is to forgive others – for we pray that God would forgive us as we forgive others – if we don’t want God keeping a record of wrongs, then we also need to let go -–to forgive and forget.

The problem is that while we may forgive, we have great trouble forgetting. The disciples recognize the difficulty – that’s why they say – increase our faith – and Jesus reply is – if you had the faith of a mustard seed…

You see, faith is not something we do – rather it is something we turn and trust in God to do, God will enable us not only to forgive, but to forget – the chief obstacle is that we have great difficulty letting go, and letting God….
